TORONTO -- Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Edwin Encarnacion is scheduled to undergo wrist surgery this week and will miss the final two weeks of the regular season. The all-star slugger will have cartilage damage repaired in his left wrist. "They said its a simple procedure to clean it out," manager John Gibbons said before Tuesdays home game against the New York Yankees. "Hes been dealing with it all year and just got to the point where his bat launch (letting go of the bat on his swing) became too frequent. You could tell he was battling it." Gibbons said that left-handed reliever Brett Cecil would also go on the disabled list with a sore elbow. Cecil will have an MRI exam this week. "Hes had some elbow discomfort for a little over a month," Gibbons said. "He hadnt been pitching much. Hell get an MRI in the next few days. He missed four games with soreness in the wrist from Sept. 8-12 and returned last weekend for a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles. "Hes had it on and off all year," Gibbons said. "Hes been able to deal with it. It kind of comes and goes. That was the plan anyway that he was going to have to get it cleaned up but it just got to the point now where he (needed surgery)." Cecil pitched 60 2/3 innings over 60 games this season and was 5-1 with a 2.82 earned-run average and one save. The all-star appeared in only three games this month for a total of one inning pitched.
